A scarce WW1 German Memorial card remembering Otto Schanzenbach. Born in Wimmental on 13th August 1849 and died February 18th 1919.
Karl Schanzenbach, born in Wimmental 5th January1893, and served with the 25th regiment (Queen Olga’s) Dragoons. He died a heroic death for his country on 31st August 1918, in Rostell France.
The 25th (1st Württemberg) Dragoons “Queen Olga” (Dragoner-Regiment) was a cavalry regiment in the Army of Württemberg; In World War I it served with the 7th Cavalry Division. It was initially assigned to III Cavalry Corps, which preceded 6th Army's advance on the Western Front. In October 1915, it was engaged in occupation duties in Belgium until October 1916, when it relocated to Romania. In January 1917, the division returned to the Western Front and was in Alsace until May 1918, Flanders until August 1918 and Artois to October 1918. It was disbanded on 1st May 1919.
Oswald Schanzenbach, born in Wimmental on 3rd March 1890 and served with the 23rd Bavarian reserve infantry regiment. He died a heroic death for his country on 30th September 1914 by a lethal shot to the stomach in Peronne France and he is now buried at the military cemetery in Maissemy France.
The book fold card has photographs of the two boys and a dedication to the father on the inside. Outside are various bible quotes. It measures 5.25 x 4.25 inches and comes in good original condition.
