WW2 Era Home Guard Defence Home Front Lapel Badge
A good original Second World War period Home Guard lapel or button badge, a scarce small oblong brass example inlaid with blue enamel surmounted by a red enamel King George VI Crown. Very good condition, one central ding to the blue enamel, complete with original button hole fitting, it measures just over .75 of an inch wide.
The Home Guard Defence force were formed in 1940, from the recently raised Local Defence Volunteers (LDV), to counter the threat of invasion from German airborne and seaborne troops (Hitler's 'Operation Sea Lion').
