Scarce George V Indian Territorial Efficiency Medal.
A scarce Indian Territorial Efficiency Medal correctly named to Private E. A. Heppolette. 2. G. I. P. RY. R. A.F.I
The regiment translates as; 2nd Great Indian Peninsular Railway Regiment. Auxiliary Force India.
Now this scarce medal is not without its faults, the rim has contact marks and its original suspender and Indian bar are missing. This may be because the suspender broke, so now it has been made into a watch fob or pendant. The medal itself is in very good condition and shows very little wear.
There were a very limited amount of Territorial Efficiency Medals awarded to Indian Auxiliary Forces; I don’t know the exact amount but no more than a handful. It’s just a shame the medal is incomplete, but with such scarce awards, we have to take what we can get.
If it did have its suspender and India bar, this would be a valuable medal. We have all seen images in films etc of the armed guards usually perched on top of the trains, that were bursting full of passengers, in a time of great civil unrest in India.
This man probably went on to serve in the second world war, so a possible great research project.
