Scarce German Chassepot Remington Rolling Block Bayonet
An interesting sword bayonet for use on the Egyptian Remington Rolling Block Rifle produced by Remington for the Egyptian government.
It is a clone of the French 1866 pattern Chassepot bayonet, the Egyptian Remington bayonet is distinguished from the French M1866 by the lack of a chamfered mortise and lack of the tenon slot at the inside top of the muzzle ring. These bayonets were made by three Germany firms; Alexander Coppel, Gebruder Weyersberg, and W. R. Kirschbaum all of Solingen. The markings have gone on this example, apart for the letter "O" on the forward face of the crosspiece and a set of numbers on the quillon. Please see pictures.
It comes in good order, the cross guard and quillon is pitted and the blade is completely rust free but needs a clean. A rare variant which is hard to find.
