George V Territorial Efficiency Medal to Sotheran 6th West Yorkshire Reg.
A single TEM correctly named to 240062 Sargent James Sotheran 6th Battalion West Yorkshire regiment. The naming on this medal has been partly erased but the number, surname and regiment is still just readable.
James Sotheran Enlisted into the 6th West Yorks (Territorials) in 1911 at the age of 17. He came from and lived in Bradford Yorkshire and working for Holdsworth & Co in the cloth industry. He saw service in the first world war arriving in France with the 146th Brigade, 49th (West Riding) Division on 16th April 1915. He saw action at the Somme in 1916 but later that year he was kicked in the head by a horse and spent some time in hospital in France and at home, finally being sent back to his regiment in the field in June 1917, where he served out the rest of the war. On demobilisation, now Acting Serjeant, he stayed with the Territorials and was awarded the Territorial Efficiency Medal in 1934. As well as the TEM he is also entitled to the 1914/15 star, British war and victory medal.
Apart from the partial erasure of the naming, this medal is in very good condition and comes with some copied paperwork including medal index card and part service papers.
