18th/19th Century Persian Shamshir Sabre.

An antique Persian Shamshir Sabre. It has a very fine long thin blade with a double fuller on each side made of wootz or true Damascus. It has a typical ‘L’ shaped grip with ‘bone’ scales and an iron cross guard with double langets. Towards the top of the blade has been inlaid with pure silver with a kind of inscription or pattern with a cross to the centre, this can be found on both side. There is also a silver inlayed inscription on the back of the blade of Arabic writing. The whole piece is in very good condition considering its age. This is no ceremonial or high official’s sword, this is a soldier’s fighting sword and has been used, so there is a goodly amount of wear, especially to the hilt. It measures 34 inches long.
