1845 Pattern Naval Cutlass by Reeves.

This 1845 naval cutlass has the typical flat blade of 28.5inches. It features an all-iron hilt with a ribbed grip. to around 26 inches. The guard still has a fair amount of its original blackened Jappaned finish and the blade is marked Reeves with other proof marks.
The blade may have undergone some later conversion around the 1880’s but it still quite long for a conversion piece, probably just slightly shortened due to use. The whole piece is in very good condition and in a good collector’s grade. There is no scabbard but most never issued with scabbards as they were stored in racks on board ship. A nice maker marked example measuring 33 inches long.
