Superb 1796 Pattern Infantry Officers Sword.

A beautiful and untouched example of the 1796 pattern British Infantry Officers Sword. It has a gilded brass hilt; gilt has gone, and the brass has a lovely deep patina. A silver wire foil grip and a folding guard, which would date this piece to the early 19th Century around 1805-10. This is the typical hourglass shape and has decoration underneath and an acorn type knop. The blade it just about as good as you are going to get, retaining its superb blue and gilt decoration of engraved foliate scrolls, weapons of war and George III royal cypher. Towards the bottom of the blade, there are two small areas of rust, this is outside of the decoration and could easily be cleaned off. The blade is marked ‘Warranted’ and has no maker’s mark. It has its original leather scabbard; this has signs of age and use, and the leather has shrunk so it has made a tight fit and the metal parts a little baggy. But it is amazing that the scabbard is still present in any condition and this one is still very serviceable. This sword measures
