Post WW1 RAF Cigarette Box Persian Gulf 1918-22
A copper, ceder lined cigarette box which probably was originally silver plated. On the top is brass early RAF wings and a dedication, maybe for a marriage ‘Persian Gulf 1918 – 1922’.
The Persian gulf is situated in what was southern Mesopotamia and post WW1 the British maintained a kind of protectorate over the region after the signing of the Anglo-Persian Agreement, which gave drilling rights to the Anglo-Persian Oil Company. The security of the area was maintained by the British Army Navy and the Airforce.
This box is an interesting piece of post war history, and it comes in good condition although it has been well polished over the years. 7.75 x 4.25 x 3 inches high.
