1914/15 Star Trio to Waine Army Cyclist Corps.
WW1 1914/15 star, British war and victory medal correctly named to 3554 Private George Edwin Waine Army Cyclist Coprs.
This trio comes with two original photographs and original cap badge.
Private Waine served with the 14th Divisional Cycle Company and embarked for France on 20th May 1915. In June 1916 the divisional cyclist companies were withdrawn to form a cyclist battalion for each Corps Headquarters in this case George was now part of the 6th battalion and later transferred to the 10th battalion.
There is still very little information regarding the Army cyclist corps, no regimental history to pull from. So, with this trio comes the full war diary for the 14th Divisional Cyclist company on a new memory stick. Briefly reading the diary, we can see that the roll of the corps was many and varied including reconnaissance and communications, prisoner escort and reserve infantry serving in the front line. A wonderful group for research with two charming photographs of George in uniform. He may have originally been part of the Norfolk cycle company as one of the photographs was taken in a studio in Norwich.
All three medals are in excellent condition and on original ribbons and copies of his medal index card and medal rolls.
