H Hughes & Sons Telescope Award Prize 1912.

A superb quality large single draw leather and brass telescope made by H. Hughes & Son London. It was given as an award and there is an engraved inscription on the forward lens guard, which reads; “The Incorporated Thames Nautical Training College. ‘HMS Worcester’ Port of London, First Nautical & Mathematical Division. 1st Prize. Head Boy in Examination. Awarded to ARTHUR GEORGE SHIELDS. Midsummer 1912”.
It is in perfect condition, obviously something that was prized and not used. I have not researched A G Shield, so I do not know if he went forward into the Royal or Merchant Navy. It measures 33 inches long when drawn.
