Rare National Scouts Slouch Hat Badge.
Boer war era heavy gauge solid brass slouch hat badge of the National Scouts. This was a unit raise in south Africa during the war from
former Boer Orange Free State, South African Republic militia and Afrikaner prisoners and defectors, and were commonly known as ‘Hensoppers’ meaning Hand-Uppers in Afrikaans. Many of their fellow citizens despised them as traitors so that the label of National Scout became a swear word and after the war many were ostracized by their community.
This badge is in excellent used condition and measures 1.75 inches wide.
