Crimean War Medal to Carden Commissariat Department.
Queen Victoria’s Crimean war medal, no clasp correctly named to Nicholas Carden. There is no regiment or number so it must refer to N. Carden. Commissariat Department.
During the Crimean War (1854-1856), the British army's supply organization, was headed by the Commissariat Department. they struggled to keep up with the basic needs of the troops, leading to extreme shortages of food and warm clothing, fuel and accommodation for the hard Crimean winter. This department was part of the Treasury, and its personnel were uniformed civilians, though they were subject to military discipline. It wasn’t until later it was militarized and its control transferred to the War Office.
This scarce medal is in very good condition but is slightly out of shape on either side. Comes with copy of service roll.
