Victorian 1845/54 Pattern Infantry Officers Levee Sword By Hawkes

The 1845 / 1854 pattern infantry officer’s sword, almost identical to the 1822/45 but missing the part folding guard, now all one piece. It has a brass gothic type guard with Queen Victoria’s cypher and a ray skin grip bound with twisted silver wire. This is the Levee type or Picquet weight carried during social and ceremonial engagements, so it has a thinner straight blade with a single fuller on each side. The blade is etched with queen Victoria’s cypher, but this is now a little faint, but the blade is nice and clean and free from rust. It has the makers mark of Hawks & Co Picadilly, London. It comes in its original steel scabbard which has some light stain spots all over. But all in all in very good condition. It measures 39.5 inches long.
