1866 Austro-Prussian War Medal (Army).

There can be so much history connected to one small piece of gilded brass. The 1866 war between Prussian, Austria and in some part Italy saw the Prussian-led German states and Italian victory over Austrian terrortory, the dissolution of the German Confederation, the formation of the North German Confederation and the exclusion of Austria from German national politics, the formation of Austria-Hungary and Italy completely annexes Venetia a former part of Austria.
There were four versions to this cross, the Königgrätz Cross: Awarded to personnel who participated directly in the pivotal Battle of Königgrätz.
The Main Army Cross: Awarded to personnel who served with the Army of the Main, which fought against forces from other German states (this example).
The Loyal Fighters Cross: Awarded to military personnel who did not fight at Königgrätz or with the main Army but were still considered "faithful warriors" and part of the theatre of operations.
And the Non-Combatant's Cross: Awarded to non-combatants, such as medical personnel or administrative staff, who supported the war effort. This variant was made of steel.
This one comes in excellent condition with just slight loss to the gilt and comes on a short piece of original ribbon.
