WW1 Medal Pair to Surgeon Probationer Brown RNVR.
An interesting WW1 British War and Victory medal correctly named to Surgeon Probationer Archibald D Brown of the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve.
I can find very little on this man only the conformation of his medal entitlement. A Surgeon probationer were 3rd or 4th year medical students that signed up for service during hostilities at the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. they served at shore hospitals and on-board ships. After the war many went back to their schools and universities to continue their studies; I am not sure if time served counted as practical study towards their degree or not. A great research project. Both medals in very good condition.
