Vintage Indonesian Mandau Sword.
A vintage Mandau or head hunters sword the traditional weapon of the Dayak people of Borneo and the peoples of Indonesia. It has a wooden grip with bamboo wrapping, but the hair plumes have been removed. It has a long hand wrought steel blade and a carved and wrapped wood scabbard.
Associated with the headhunting ceremony, in which people would gather to attack other tribes and gather heads to be used in various festivities, this one is probably a 1970’s tourist piece. In very good condition measuring 24.5 inches long.
