WW1 Medal Trio to Hancox RFC & Lincs Reg.
A really interesting 1914 /15. British war and victory medal correctly named to 10686 2. AM Willaiam J Hancox Royal Flying Corps.
A scarce WW1 trio named to Royal Flying Corps. William Hancox born in Bulsall Heath Birmingham 1890. Before the war he was employed as a general labourer and enlisted very early on going into the 18th Hussars. This obviously didn’t suit him as he purchased his own discharge for £10. He then enlisted into the Royal Flying Corps as Air Mechanic 2nd class and after serving a short time at home he was posted to France on 23rd November 1915. Here he served with the RFC Kite Balloon Section. On 23rd September 1917 he was transferred again, this time to the 10th Lincolnshire regiment the Grimsby Chums, seeing action in the 3rd battle of Ypres, and the battle of Lys. William was discharged on the 10th February 1919 and returned to his home in Rugby, later marrying Alice and having a daughter Joyce.
This mans service history needs much more research, but included is as much as I could find with a cursory search and hard copies are included with his medals etc. The medals are in very good original condition.
