Order of St John Group to Hines – Birmingham Man.

A WW1 British War and Victory Medal correctly named to R R Hines British Red Cross & St John of Jerusalem. WW2 Defence medal and St Johns service medal, plated type and the silver and enamel Order of St John of Jerusalem officers breast badge in box of issue a black space is left on the medal bar for the order to be clipped on when worn but can be stored in its case.
Robert Ralston Hines was born in Aston Warwickshire on the 16th March 1896. His father Robert was a Jewler and silversmith and he became the manager of a Silver Plating works for a Birmingham maker. His mother Elizabeth enjoyed a typical middle-class life of the Edwardian era; Robert Jnr was their only child.
He enlisted into the St Johns Ambulance as Orderly in January 1917 and served in France until the armistice in November 1918. After the war he became a Manager at Hampton Optical Co, in Essex Street Birmingham. He must have continued a close connection to the St Johns Ambulance receiving the service medal after ten years of service. He served with St Johns Ambulance during WW2, probably being of great use during the Birmingham Blitz giving much needed first aid. He was made Officer Brother of the order of St John on 17th November 1954 for distinguished service to the Order.
More research is needed on this man; however his group comes with various copied research including medal index card and medal rolls, census details etc.
Medals are un good condition, mounted on bar with light contact marks to rims.
