1821 Pattern Heavy Cavalry Sword 19th Hussars by Pillin.

Victorian period heavy cavalry officer’s sword the 1821 pattern but with a straight back, Wilkinson type blade. It has a pierced honeysuckle guard with ray skin covered grip and crosshatched pommel; it has a two third fullered blade with etched decoration and the Elephant motif of the 19th Hussars. There is a brass proof button on one side of the ricasso and the makers details on the other for S. J Pillin, 31 Gerrard Street, Soho London. This mark would date this sword post 1860. On the back of the blade is the issue number of 100820.
It is in very good order, very little rust or pitting to the hilt. The blade has darkened over the years which has made the etching a little faint but still visible. The is an area of pitting to the tip of the blade and no scabbard. All in all, a nice affordable example of this type of sword.
It measures 42 inches long.
