Scarce WW1 Era 14th Btn Royal Irish Regiment Cap Badge.

The solid brass badge 1912 – 14 of the 14th (young citizens) battalion, Royal Irish regiment. This started life as an Irish civic organisation founded in Belfast in 1912. It was established to bridge the gap for 18 to 25 year olds between membership of youth organisations—such as the Boys' Brigade and Boy Scouts.
When war broke out in August 1914, they became the 14th (Service) Battalion of the Royal Irish Rifles in September that year. They fought bravely in the 36th (Ulster) Division and was disbanded in 1918.
This badge is in very good used condition with light Verdigris on the surface.
