WW1 Mk1 Type B Brodie Helmet with Original Badge and Decal.
WW1 Brodie Helmet type B with welded rim introduced in October 1915. This one has been well used and has a few battle scars. It has most of its original surface paint still remaining and rough sand textured finish, Suffolk regiment cap badge fitted, this looks like it was painted black at come point, and original painted decal on the back of a red diamond. This may be for the 14th brigade, 32 division, but I’m completely sure. Inside it has most of its original liner and chin strap, this needs repairing and reattaching. It has good makers marks of FS for Thomas Firth & Sons.
The crown of the helmet has had a heavy bash, probably happened in the field, this, I am told could be hammered out, but this would probably damage its original paint, plus it all part of the helmet’s history. A fine untouched example of a scarce badge helmet.
