A scarce WW2 era British Prisoner of War relatives association (POWRA) pin badge, constructed from brass with coloured enamels, the association was created in 1942 originally as a limited company but later became a charity, it supported the families of POW’s and arranged things like Christmas parties for the children of the POW’s, it also issued ‘comforts’ to repatriated servicemen and sent parcels with items such as cigarettes to the POW’s, it cost 12 shillings annually to be a member and this entitled the
The British Prisoner of War Relatives Association was created in March 1942 as a limited company (later to become a charity) supporting the families of POWs. It undertook a range of tasks from organising Christmas parties for the children of those in captivity to issuing comforts to repatriated servicemen and parcels of such things as cigarettes to POWs. On payment of 12 shillings annual subscription, member became eligible for the POWRA lapel badge hence why this is limited in number.
The badge measures 1.25 long and comes in super condition for its age with just one small enamel blemish.
