WW2 Medals Insignia & Uniform to Reed BRCS.

A beautiful collection of medals, insignia and personal effects relating to Miss Jessie Reed of the British Red Cross Society, Devon.
Jessie Reed was born in Ilfracombe Devon on October 13th 1894. At the age of 16 she is working as a Dairy Maid at her fathers (Richard) farm in Ilfracombe. She joined the BRCS Devon 64 in 1932 and passed her proficiency exams in 1935 and 1936. During WW2 she became the local Civil Defence Instructor aiding her towns people in home-front protection, anti-gas measures, and air raid precautions. And became section leader in 1940. She was promoted to nursing sister and Qualter Master at the Tyrrell Hospital casualty department in 1942. Providing essential medical and emergency treatment for both local residents, evacuees and military personnel in the area. She became an official member of the General Nursing Council of England in November 1945
She married Courtney R J Griffin (291552 Gunner Courtney Randolph James Griffin of the 28th heavy battery Royal Garrison Artillery WW1) in 1949.
She served as a Voluntary Aid Detachment Commandant from 1954 to 1961.
Sadley Jessie died in 1972 and Courtnry in 1976.
Her medals and Badges include; BRCS medal proficiency in Red Cross Nursing, 1935 bar (named). BRCS medal proficiency in Red Cross First Aid, 1936 bar (named).. BRCS medal For Merit 1940 bar (named). General Nursing Council of England members badge (named to Griffin) Voluntary Medical Service Medal (solid silver version) with 2 Red Cross service bars named to Miss Jessie Reed for 25 years’ service in total. WW2 Civil Defence Instructors Air Raid Precautions School badge. BRCS Queens Badge of Honour 3rd class numbered 91. The Badge of Honour was awarded for exceptional service to the Society. It was Instituted in 1958 and Jessie was the 91st person to be awarded the badge. Plus, Red cross officer’s pips and badges all mounted on velvet. She is also entitled to the WW2 defence medal, which is not mounted but comes separate. All in very good condition no loss or damage to any of the enamels.
Her Uniform includes tunic, skirt and cap all with correct badges and insignia and medal ribbon bar. Chest size 38, Skirt waist 30. In good used condition, no moth damage and it has been treated against moth.
Also included are two original WW2 era photographs and various research including census records etc.
An incredible and rare group of items which shows a life of devoted service to helping others.
