WW2 Era 1895/97 Infantry Officers Sword.

A scarcer George VI Infantry officer’s sword in the 1895 pattern with the 1897 upgrades. It has three-quarter pierced and nickel-plated basket hilt with the Kings cypher. Ray skin grip bound with twisted wire and cross hatched back strap. It has the typical long straight blade with a short fuller on both sides and etched on both sides with the royal coat of arms etc. on the ricasso, one side has a retailer mark for Flight Ltd. London Aldershot and Cambridge. On the other side is the proof mark, which looks like that used by Starky and Co London, ‘S’ with ‘PROVED’ wrapped around. it comes in its original brown leather field scabbard. On the whole, this sword is in very nice condition, but it does have some faults due to poor storage. There is a little patch of rust which has pitted the nickel on the inside of the guard. The blade is lightly stained. When I got it, the blade was covered in grease, which always seems like a good idea, but engine grease Will stain the metal, it is always better to use a natural Bees wax or a specialist oil.
