An original-coloured engraving depicting the death of Lieutenant-Colonel William Miller (1784–1815) of the 1st Regiment of Foot Guards, who was mortally wounded leading his troops at the Battle of Quatre Bras on June 16, 1815. Miller was struck during the fighting in Bossu Wood at Quatre Bras. As he lay dying, he asked to see the regimental colours. Once they were waved around him, he smiled and said he was satisfied before being carried off the field. He passed away the next day in Brussels.
The picture comes framed and glazed with old gallery label on the back. just one of several items from the Miller family I am listing this week. It measures 20 x 16.5 inches.
