French 1866 Pattern Label Bayonet.

A superb example of the 1866 pattern cruciform blade sword bayonet made for use on the 8mm M1886 Lebel rifle, used through the first world war and after. It has a solid nickel grip with steel locking catch and hook quillon. This one is in superb original condition with various impressed numbers and proof marks. A large sized cross of St George English flag, made from linen and constructed in sewn sections, it has short rope through the hoist, it measures nearly 9 foot long x 4 foot wide, it has had a life and shows some repairs mainly to the bottom edges. A good officer’s bronze badge with a maker’s pad mark for Firmin London. All folding blades are missing from the back and a brooch type fitting added.
