3rd Pattern Fairbairn Sykes Fighting Knife Named 7th Commando
A very interesting late WW2 3rd Pattern Fairbairn Sykes Fighting Knife with bronzed ringed alloy grip with (2) cast into the pommel and round finial nut. Attributed to William Rogers, the number is the casting number, which I believe were done in groups of four.
It has a brass guard and a good steel blade with its original leather and brass scabbard. The blade has been privately stamped 23893727 Bunting, some digits double stamped. The scabbard has also been stamped with (from the top down) R M F V R No 7 Comm Ando. 23893727 Bunting L.
The Royal Marines Forces Volunteer Reserve was formed in 1948 and would have been issued with late WW2 knives. They were formed as a volunteer reserve force to provide a trained body of men to support the Royal Marines during times of war or national emergency. Originally organised in four centres as training wings inspired by the main wartime functions of the Corps, Sea Service, Amphibious, Commando and Small-Scale Raiding wings. In 1966 their title was changed to Royal Marines Reserves.
It comes in very good condition with one very small square Knick to the blade, which looks as if this was done on purpose. The scabbard is also in excellent condition and this post war issue.
It measures 11.75 inches long.
Ship to UK mainland only. Proof of age required on purchase, over 18’s only.
