Victorian 1822 / 45 Pattern Infantry Officers Sword.

A nice example of the 1822 pattern Infantry officer’s sword with the Victorian 1845 pattern blade. It has a brass gothic type, part folding guard with Queen Victoria’s cypher and a ray skin grip bound with twisted silver wire. It has a long slightly curved blade which has a single fuller on both sides, and it is etched including the queens cypher with crown above. it does not show a maker’s mark but has a brass proof button on one side used by Robert Mole of Birmingham. It comes in its original steel scabbard with two hanging rings.
The condition is very nice but of course a sword of this age which has been used has a few minor faults, including on the grip, the very top, the ray skin is missing. the etching on the blade is slightly worn and although the blade has some patination, it has no rust. The scabbard has very light pit marks all over, which gives it a grey colour, but not unattractive and the whole piece has been recently cleaned, not over cleaned but leaving traces of the original patination. A very nice mid-19th century sword measuring 39 inches long.
