WW2 Era POW Trench Art Cigarette Case
This style of cigarette case was made during WW2 by Italian and German prisoners of war captured by the British forces in North Africa and held in POW camps, they were constructed from the aluminium frames of downed aircraft from the North African front and used to trade for food and cigarettes. This example has the image of an Indian style temple to the front and a butterfly on the back each of these backed by brown leather, the inside has cross hatched decoration. It comes in very good condition with the hinges and catch in good working order, some surface scuffs and tiny dings, it measures 4.75 x just over 3
