He was conscripted into the Reich Labour service in the January 1941. After a period of training, he was proficient with the Lugar, hand grenades and what looks like automatic weapons b. On the 8th September 1942 he was transferred to the 5th infantry battalion of the 134 infantry division now his obligation to the RAD was concluded. He was sent to the eastern front and was very sadly killed in action around 1st August 1943, this is listed as the date he went missing.
The place of death is basically unknown, but he is now remembered with honour at the Charkiw war cemetery, Ukraine.
He was probably killed during the Russians Donbas strategic offensive. The German army were poorly equipped with little replacements for there losses. The Donbas operation began on 13 August 1943, the German forces in this area would be hard pressed to hold the line without assistance of a strong armoured support to push back the Soviet onslaught.
